I chose work over fitness

Since November last year, my business has swallowed nearly every waking hour of my life, causing me to gain 14kg.  I new my fitness gas gone to the pack but nothing prepared me for the ride I did yesterday with a friend.

I want to get my fitness back as every time I look at myself in the mirror or think of my current fitness levels I become depressed.

I went for a 70km ride on Wednesday.  My seed was a lot slower then I was hopping it would be.  Thursday I arranged to go for a ride with a friend.  This ride has become my motivation to get stuck rite back into it again.  My friend has always struggled to stay on my rear wheel every time we have gone for a cycle, but this time he just moped the floor with me.

Many times he had to slow to wait for me as I puff and pant. I really did struggle just keeping a normal speed of 25km/ph.

At the moment I am weighing in at 94kg and I am aiming for my old weight of 80kg.  The ride with my friend has awoken me from this obsession of work over my own fitness.  Sometimes you need a wake up call to get you going again and I have received mine.

I so hear you, I'm totally obsessed with my business and keep finding it incredibly hard to put my health first.

I go through stages of exercising, but each time I get really busy at work I end up working all the time and leaving no time at all for fitness.

I used to be so incredibly fit and exercised nearly every day for 10 years, but between the business and the two children I've also acquired over the last seven years, my health and fitness have nose dived and it's pretty depressing.

I'm hoping joining this site and logging my exercise will help motivate me to keep to it instead of slacking off for months at a time every time I get busy with work.

For ages since putting on weight with my pregnancies I've been fixated on my weight and on trying to watch what I eat, but actually now I realise that the real issue is my failure to exercise consistently that is stopping me from loosing weight and when inspected my eating habits are pretty good.

You can't expect to loose weight if you exercise for three months solid, make good progress with fitness and fat loss.... and then stop for six months and do barely anything at all within that time and loose everything you've achieved in the previous 3 mths.

I've got to get back to my commitment to year in year out exercising - no gaps, no slacking off, just keeping it up for good.

Anyway, sorry for the waffle/rant!

Hey Bud,

I feel your pain. I seem to go through this cycle of being a workaholic and then being a fitness junkie when I realise I'm getting fat.

At the moment I'm aiming for more balance where I keep things going with the business and also the fitness..

Good luck man

You are not alone in work winning out over health ,I miss the feeling I used to get after a good workout and so want it back, its ahrd to start slowly but after so long away from fitness thats what I'm going to do for a couple of months.Good luck ,you know it'll make you feel fantastic ..and work cannot give you that feeling you get from a good workout :)
